Ameesha Patel defends remarks on Bollywood PR culture and fake stardom claims

Mumbai, May 17: Actress Ameesha Patel has once again spoken out against what she described as the growing trend of “fake PR machinery” in the film industry, standing firmly by her recent comments targeting younger actresses and their publicity campaigns.

Speaking to paparazzi in Mumbai on Saturday, the actress reacted to questions surrounding her recent posts on social media, where she criticised actors allegedly projecting themselves as top stars despite limited box-office success.

Responding to the controversy, Ameesha said, “What I said was right. These days, everyone considers themselves to be number one,” reiterating her stance on the issue.

Earlier this month, the actress took to X, formerly Twitter, to question the credibility of self-proclaimed stardom in the industry. In her posts, she argued that many actresses who have not delivered major commercial successes are using public relations campaigns to portray themselves as leading stars.

She further stated that true superstardom should be defined by films that create “history” at the box office and resonate globally, rather than by aggressive promotional strategies.

In another post, Ameesha highlighted her own filmography, mentioning blockbuster hits such as Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, and Gadar 2. She claimed that these films remain among the biggest hits of her career and also among the most successful films of her co-stars.

The actress added that despite having delivered commercially successful films, she does not rely on what she referred to as “fake PR machinery” unlike several contemporary actors.

On the professional front, Ameesha was last seen in Gadar 2 opposite Sunny Deol, reprising her iconic role of Sakeena in the blockbuster sequel.
