Mumbai, Jun 13: As the iconic Bollywood blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha completes 25 years, actor Sunny Deol has expressed gratitude for the enduring love audiences have showered on the film and its unforgettable characters over the past two and a half decades.

To mark the milestone, the film will receive a special anniversary telecast on Zee Cinema and Zee Bollywood on June 15, celebrating one of the most successful and influential films in Hindi cinema history.

Reflecting on his portrayal of Tara Singh, Sunny Deol said the character forged a unique and lasting connection with audiences that has only strengthened over time. He noted that the affection shown towards the film even after 25 years remains one of the greatest rewards of his acting career.

"Tara Singh gave me a bond with audiences that has only grown stronger with time. Twenty-five years later, the love for Gadar feels just as powerful. That is the greatest reward any actor can ask for," the actor said while thanking viewers for their continued support.

Co-star Ameesha Patel, who played Sakina in the film, described the role as one of the most cherished chapters of her life. She said witnessing audiences continue to celebrate the character and the film after so many years was deeply emotional and reaffirmed the special place Gadar holds in her heart.

Directed by Anil Sharma, the film emerged as a cultural phenomenon upon its release in 2001. Despite facing stiff competition from Lagaan, starring Aamir Khan, Gadar went on to become one of the biggest box-office successes in Indian cinema.

Anil Sharma credited the film's lasting appeal to its emotional storytelling and strong connection with audiences. He said Gadar was created with conviction and sincerity, and that viewers transformed it into something far greater than just a successful movie.

Set against the backdrop of the Partition of India, the film combined romance, patriotism, family values and sacrifice in a narrative that resonated with audiences across generations. Its memorable dialogues, powerful performances and emotional storyline have helped it retain a special place in popular culture.

Over the years, Gadar has continued to attract new viewers through television broadcasts, theatrical re-releases and digital platforms, ensuring that its legacy remains alive among both longtime fans and younger audiences.

Even after a quarter-century, Tara Singh and Sakina remain among the most beloved characters in Hindi cinema, highlighting the timeless appeal of a film that continues to be celebrated as a landmark in Indian filmmaking.
