Mangalore, May 5: In a fresh development, a case has been filed against the six protestors and activists, who had laid siege to the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) office on May 2. The protestors had demanded the immediate removal of mud that was allegedly dumped into river Phalguni near Melakoppala of Kuloor by the MSEZ. 

Raghvendra Holla, deputy general manager of MSEZ in his complaint mentioned the names of activist Vidya Dinkar, Pius D’Souza, Godfrey D’Souza, Dinesh Shetty, T R Bhat and Hemalath Bhat.

The complaint states how these six accused disrupted the office along with other protestors. As these protestors broke into the MUDA building in large numbers, the public and the other officers in the building were disturbed and were prevented from carrying on their duties. Also, loud slogans and awful words insulted the officials, the complaint further stated.

MSEZ justifies their take saying that this matter was registered in the court writ petition No 11630/2012 (PIL) and was pending court verdict. "Even though the case is pending in the court, they expect forced assurance from our side," the complaint explained.

Due to the environmental effects, the government of Karnataka has consented to construct a 230m barricade, a flyover as big as 30m and to build proper river banks. The MSEZ thus justified that it has been following the orders of Environment and Ecology department.
