Mumbai, May 16: The feast of patron saint John the Baptist was celebrated at the historical church, now in ruins, at SEEPZ Industrial Area, Andheri (East), on Sunday May 13.
Fr Vernon Aguiar offered the festal Holy Mass along with Fr Clarence Fonseca, parish priest, St John the Evangelist Church, Marol, and other priests.
A large gathering of the faithful attended the festal Holy Mass on the occasion.
The church was built in 1579 and about 100 adults were baptized during that event. Despite the neglect, the walls of the church are miraculously held by the gigantic tree roots, as though they have embraced them permanently. The trees are amazingly the sole protectors from the battering effects of the rains and wind.
The faithful gathered in and around the church monument, braving the sun and summer heat, for the sake of the love of Jesus Christ.
