Washington, Aug 22 (IANS): Two young women were killed in a massive train derailment in the US state of Maryland, which crushed several vehicles and closed nearby streets, media reports said Tuesday.
Both the women were 19-year-old, Xinhua reported.
According to a report by WBALTV, an NBC affiliate, the derailment occurred around Monday midnight in Ellicott city, close to Baltimore. An eastbound CSX train carrying coal came off the tracks on a historic bridge.
A total of 21 cars of the 80-car freight train derailed and overturned, crushing several vehicles in a parking lot below the bridge, said Emergency workers.
The two train operators, however, were unharmed.
