Mysore/T. Narasipur, Jan 2: Your doctor may advice that laughter is the best medicine and even the adage says 'laugh and the world will laugh with you', but still there is one place you will be forced to stop that irresistible laugh coming out of you, however uncontrollable it is.

That place is the premises of a Court, that too while a proceeding is on and the person who paid dearly for laughing in the Court is Lakshmayya of Mugur village in the town here, who is now cooling his heels in the jail for 16 days.

This incident occurred on Thursday when Lakshmayya appeared before the judge K. Sadashiva in the Civil Court here regarding a case connected with a group clash.

Everything was normal as any other day in the busy Court and Lakshmayya was brought to the witness box when the strange incident took place much to the amusement of the people present and much to the judge's serious mood of meaning business.

While questioning was in progress, Lakshmayya burst into laughter and even the judge's warning were not heeded.

As Lakshmayya's indecent behaviour affected the Court proceedings, the Judge had to slap him 16-day simple imprisonment.

There are a large number of people who are not aware of the law that laughing in the Court is a punishable offence, which has led Lakshmayya to jail where he must be laughing at his own peril!
