Spot Report by Shekar Ajekar from Ajekar for Daijiworld - pics - Umesh L Shetty with arrangements with Sukumar Muniyal

Karkala, Feb 27 (Monday, 10-30 pm):
After a long hibernation, the Naxals have once again ‘made their presence felt’ in the Karkala region on Monday February 27.

Armed Naxals burned a bike at Ajekar near here. A total of 11 armed Naxals visited Mutlapady, few kilometers away from Muniyal near here on Monday.

According to sources, they threatened one Kutty Shetty in a public place in the evening and instructed him to pay employees well.  After setting a bike on fire, the group disappeared into the dense forest.

Locals told  the Daijiworld correspondent that the group spoke in Tulu which is a clear indication that Naxals have gained substancial support from local youth.  Truth is that more and more youth coming from the lower strata of the society who are being trampled upon are getting attracted to the Naxal ideology of fighting against the injustice.

Though the Anti Naxal Force has been deployed in the Naxal affected places, the Naxalites have always been able to go about their task without any problems.  This indeed is a sign that the local community does stand with the Naxalites.
