Mysore, Mar 4: Cartoonists should present their works in such a manner that they do not hurt the sentiments of anyone, advised cartoonist of international repute R.K. Laxman.

Laxman on a private visit to city, spoke to Star of Mysore yesterday at Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel here. He said that, of late, few cartoons have raised lot of controversies. Hurting someone's sentiments is not good.

He was referring to the cartoon published in a Danish daily depicting the Prophet and the one in the country depicting Hindu Goddesses in bad taste.

"It is not fair", he reiterated.

Replying to a question, Laxman said that there was lot of difference between cartoons of yesteryears and today. It is a welcome change as today's young cartoonists are keeping pace with the frequent shift in political scenario.

Giving tips to budding cartoonists, Laxman suggested that they should spread a social message through their cartoons. They should try to become role models for the new comers.

Asked about his Mysore visit, Laxman said "It is a private visit. I was born and brought up in Mysore. Reminiscing my days at Maharaja's College, I have profound feelings for this city".

He later went round the paintings adorning the walls of the Conference Hall of the hotel and appreciated them. Later in the night he left for Madikeri.
