Bangalore, Mar 12: A chartered accountant of Mangalorean origin, Rohan Paul (32), was stabbed by unidentified assailants on Friday night around 10-30 near HDFC Bank on Kalidasa Road. Having sustained severe injuries on his thigh, Rohan is said to have suffered heavy bleeding, leading to his death.

The Upparpet police sources said the act could be out of some mistaken identity. The victim was walking on the road. Chances of a motive of robbery are ruled out because the assailants have left the laptop computer, Rs 1,200 in cash, watch and other valuables belonging to Rohan untouched.

As he was a quite popular person, they say, there was no possibility of the attack being motivated by enmity and it is thought to be a killing based on mistaken identity. Soon after the assault, the HDFC Bank's security personnel informed the mobile police team Hoysala and he was rushed to the Victoria hospital but it was of no avail.

Rohan Paul was employed as a chartered accountant in a private firm in Halsur. His wife Vandana is the daughter of Dr J S Sadananda, principal, Karnataka Theological College, Mangalore. They were married about four years ago and they lived in Koramangala.

Rohan's father, Sydney Paul, formerly with Vijaya Bank's head office, had retired as general manager and has been living in Koramangala, Bangalore since retirement, said reports. Rohan's mother Leela is a senior manager with Vijaya Bank. He is survived by parents and younger brother Sujit.

Dr Sadananda and family members are said to have rushed from Mangalore to Bangalore in the early hours of Saturday and were expected to take the mortal remains to Mangalore in the evening.

The funeral will take place 4-30 pm on Sunday, March 12 in the Gorigudda cemetery in Mangalore.
