Mangalore, Apr 21: One may wonder how a slow and steady driver could win the race in this era of hi-tech speed and competition. That’s the open secret of the Accident Prevention and Traffic Rules Cell of Lions Club Dist 324 D-5, which has organized reverse vehicle driving and balancing competition. Here one is a victor if he/she drives slow and steady.

The Reverse Show Programme to be held on April 23 at 9 am on the Open Grounds near KSRTC bus stand in the city will provide an opportunity for the participants to test their driving skills.

Cell chairman Agnel Rodrigues said that the competition was planned to bring about awareness among the people on the importance of driving slow and to avoiding road accidents.

Separate competitions will be organized for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. In the four- wheeler category, the participant has to reverse the vehicle in a given track without any problem at minimum time. In two wheeler category, participant has to ride the vehicle at minimum speed and ensure that his leg does not touch the ground. Rider who takes minimum possible time will be declared the winner, he informed. Separate competitions will also be organized for women, Agnel added.

Participants need to pay Rs 50 as entry fee and the proceeds will be used to purchase an ambulance which will be donated to Animal Care Trust in the city.
