BJP dares AAP to form govt in Delhi, fulfill 'unrealistic promises'

New Delhi, Dec 9 (PTI): BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Monday dared Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to form a government with Congress support and fulfil "unrealistic promises" instead of avoiding power where it will be like a "fish out of water".

Slamming Arvind Kejriwal's one-year-old party for making "unrealistic promises" during Assembly elections in Delhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha said it should fulfil its "exaggerated and unimplementable" manifesto.

On his latest Facebook posting, Jaitley sought to know if the AAP is merely a "freak phenomenon" or will be a lasting experiment. He said no clear answers could be given at the moment.

"This party is unconventional. It has attempted to exploit the general mood of cynicism. It has made unrealistic promises and does not want to sit in a position of responsibility where it has to walk its talk," Jaitley said.

AAP's impressive performance in the Delhi elections came as a surprise to BJP and the Congress. It emerged as the second largest party with 28 seats in the 70-member Assembly. BJP got 31 and its ally SAD won one seat. Congress with eight seats was a distant third.

"The very suggestion of being in the government to implement its policy and promises appears to be scary for this party. In a democracy, the voters vote in order to elect the government," Jaitley said.

Throwing a challenge to AAP and Congress, he said in the absence of clear majorities, forming a government is the art of the possible and Congress can extend its outside support to the AAP.

"In power, such a party (AAP) would be like a fish out of water. It is possible to make exaggerated promises, and capture the imagination of a few by making unimplementable promises. The strategy of the party is to avoid power rather than be in a position to implement the unimplementable," Jaitley said.

Jaitley said BJP had won 6-8 seats less than its expected tally but maintained some of the party candidates lost by a narrow margin. He conceded that the AAP was BJP's main rival in the polls.

"Even though we have managed to retain a large part of our traditional votes, there was some shift even in middle-class localities to the AAP. The Congress was no longer a serious option in Delhi. Residents of the city were considering which of the two alternatives to vote for ? the BJP or the AAP," he said.

Noting that the AAP had got lesser votes and seats than BJP, Jaitley said this is not a ground for satisfaction.

"The BJP's march to comfortable majority has not been interrupted by the Congress. It has been interrupted by the AAP. The lesson of the 32 constituencies that the BJP has won clearly reveals that most candidates who were well grounded in the constituencies and appeared to be electorally acceptable have won," he said.

The BJP leader also emphasised that the lesson for his party in Delhi is that the "credibility-quotient" counts in an election. He gave the credit to Harsh Vardhan and said the Chief Ministerial candidate's image had helped the party.

"The image of the leadership, as also of the candidate, must induce confidence amongst the voters. The announcement of Harsh Vardhan's name as the BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate helped the BJP," Jaitley said.

"Just getting a party nomination even in a stronghold is not enough. The days of conventional politics are now over," he added.

In case of re-poll BJP will emerge victorious. APP is Delhi centric and irrilavent in National Politics. What youngsters want is total change in the country, cleansing the mess Congress has done in last 60years. I wonder how Rahul and Sonia Gandhi will impliment change in their party structure - 60 years too less to impliment change? BJP is the only alternative and jot APP. If re-poll happen BJP will return stronger

BJP is very good in playing double games as entire nation show them during lokpal agitation.I request mr.jaitley why he is not asking his 10MLAs to resign so they can have fresh polls in these constituencies so that AAP can get full majority and Mr.jaitely can see if AAP can fulfill their promises.

BJP is famous for hatred and jealous politics! Once again Arun jaitley has shown that from his non tolorent statements. AAP is people's choice and people have voted them. Who the hell Arun Jaitley is to ask AAP to form Govt with congress's support? BJP is media's exaggeration and media has given them life particularly Arnab Gosami of Times Now. Now let Arnab Gosami explain to nation as to why BJP is scared to form the Govt in Delhi particularly when their horse trading business repeatedly failed. Let them form the Govt and fullfill their exaggerated and unimplementable promisses. It's very easy to pass comments sitting within four walls of high security. True colours will be known only when you take the responsiblities of governing state and nation, wherein your deeds are watched and criticised. Come on BJP, dont run away, form the Govt and show your guts to the nation. No... you cannot!! There is a strong opposition and out side the assembly people are watching you with broom sticks. haa..haa.. haa..

It is not a sound argument to form AAP the government in Delhi with the help of Congress party. When the BJP is the leading vote taker,it is their constitutional duty to claim the forming of government. They may be afraid to form the government because of defficult in handling of AAP in the opposition. This shows the lack of guts of BJP and indirectly betraying the voter to have government in Delhi. The people observe all this and really teach them rightly.Thanq.

We need people like Kiran Bedi to be the Chief Minister of Delhi.
During her career with traffic deptt of delhi police …she once lifted and challaned the car of nobody else …but the prime minister of India Mrs Indira Gandhi…!! One can see the courage and confidence kiran had in herself and her actions……!! Kiran Bedi is the right choice who will see all people from same angle. Her popular TV show is viewed mostly earlier due to her stand to unite the family rather than to separate as done by saas/bhau serials.

The most important part of her career in my view point was as an Inspector general of Tihar jail in delhi…..she will always be remembered for this stint of her…as she for the first time changed the complete and overall management of jail administration …..by giving a new lease of life to convicts through meditation and spiritualism …..following the footsteps of great saint Mahatma Gandhi….who always said …hate the bad element in a criminal don’t hate the person in him….bring out the human in him ….and you will change his life…!!! She brought in the yoga , vipaasna meditation, redressed the inmates complaints against the administration and brought about the very famous and highly acclaimed “Jail reforms”… and it was during her tenure as IG of Tihar jail , that she was nominated for Megasaysay award ….and she was indeed awarded it….which she rightly always deserved..

People in AAP are only for power-hungry..while claiming kejriwal is left highest post. What about his wife who is still serving in Income Tax. Let first himself sacrifice job of his wife as done by other's who joined AAP mostly NRI's. Many people left there multi-national jobs for sake of nation...but how much people are going to get political milegage..only a few. Other's left in ditch..it's mostly happening in politics. AAP will not survive for long. Agitation will occurs within the party within due course. Jai Ho..

AAP Arvind Kejriwal proves himself, by winning 28 seats based on NGO idealogies is good but running a Government with Foreign Policies where problems with China one side and Pakistan on the other side is NOT in the parameters of AAP Of course they will have to groom themselves for a least 2 mandates before taking such huge commitments And agree with AAP Arvind Kejriwal that they are not yet ready to run a Government so AAP should support BJP to form govt without wasting time getting votes is one thing, governing is altogether a different ball game in this MODI is expert he can govern and can get the job done & Kejriwal has ZERO experience education ( DEGREE )is one thing exp counts everywhere in OFFICE or in POLITICS.

It is not ideal for Arvind Kejriwal to form the govt with the help of all betrayed parties like congress/BJP. Let AAP be in opposition till it gets full and clean majority, so that it can act on its promises without any blackmail from the supporting/alliance parties. My request to you Kejriwal, don't go with any statements of congress or BJP or any other parties. This time you may not be able to deliver what you promise with their support. They themself could not deliver and this time they(BJP) know for sure if they form the govt with AAP in the opposition, they will have a tough time.

    1) If no one can form the govt, what is the option?
    2) You think re election? and who will bear the cost?
    3) What if there is again hung parliment?
It's easy to say, I even support AAP but there should be some solution. Why can't they approach cong or BJP for support and fulfil their promises which they have made if they are really concerned about the country.

AAP is a major threat for BJP in hte forthcoming LS elections. It can emerge as a first front and surprice any political party.

The BJP will thus want AAP to partner with congress and form the govt. Post which the blame game will start, and they will allege that cong and aap are same face of the coin.

During Anna hazare agitation Arvind Kejriwal realised that it is unconstitutional to Gherao the elected members of the political system or parliament to enact a law with force. And also realised that the same politicians are not only uncooperative but also cheaters because they are corrupt. That is why participation in democratic system by forming a new party was essential. Anna hazare and many others failed to understand this point and did not support him thinking that Kejriwal has personal motives.Worst is that many people tried to harm him by various negative ways which is really heart breaking to Mr. Arvind Kejriwal. He is a man of simplicity and straightforwardness, Knowledgeable and he is my leader. I Wish him all the best in national level.

With your 32 seats you cannot form a Government because AAP and Congress will not support you.

Best option for you now is to support AAP to form a Government from outside,,, so Delhi gets a clean Government.

Otherwise Congress will comeback to power by Presidents rule...so keep your "Lawyers Wit" aside for a while and support AAP....
