Mangalore Apr 27: A visual treat of blooms and colours awaits Mangaloreans. A flower and fruit show, organized by the horticulture department along with Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, district administration and Siri Horticulture Association, will be hosted at Kadri Park from Thursday April 27 to Sunday April 30.

The show will be inaugurated by state minister for fisheries, horticulture and endowment and district in-charge B Nagaraj Shetty at 5 pm, said senior assistant horticulture director (state zone) A Sanjiv Naik while speaking to reporters here.

The inauguration ceremony will be presided over by MLA N Yogish Bhat. MPs D V Sadanand Gowda, Manorama Madhwaraj, D C Srikanthapa, ZP president Mamatha D S Gatti and mayor K Ashraf are expected to be present.

The exhibition will focus on methods of organic farming and growing of medicinal plants. A variety of flowers and decorative plants will be on display and will include vegetables which can be grown in pots. Private nurseries will also take part in the event.

The show was postponed due to a delay in sanction of budget from the government. The ZP has released a sum of Rs 10,000 for the show. There will be 20 stalls on display and will be open to public free of cost, said horticulture department deputy director C G Nagaraj.

The valedictory, to be presided over by ZP chief executive officer A M Kunjappa, will be held at 5 pm on Sunday April 30. A souvenir will be released by deputy commissioner H V Parshwanath. Among those present will be Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva and district superintendent of police B Dayanand.
