Indonesian militant jailed for Myanmar embassy bomb plot

Jakarta, Jan 13 (IANS): An Indonesian court Monday sentenced a militant to six years' imprisonment for an attempted bomb attack on the Myanmar embassy in Jakarta.

Rokhadi alias Abu Jannah was found guilty of involvement in terrorist attack in May last year, presiding judge Ahmad Dimyati said during the court session, Xinhua reported.

Prosecutors have said the planned strike was aimed at pressuring the government of Myanmar to ramp up its efforts to end attacks on the Muslim minority of Rohingya.

A series of deadly attacks had targeted the Muslim minority in Myanmar since 2012.

Rokhadi's fellow conspirator Sigit Indrajit, who will be convicted next week, confessed that he was the mastermind of the plot, while another man, Ahcmad Taufik alias Ovie, has been sentenced to seven years and six months in jail.
