Mangalore, May 28: The grandiose designs and socio-economic euphoria wrought by the rightist and centrist parties in the name of globalisation has turned into a bad dream. It is now time for rediscovering our priorities as a nation and as a society, according to Mohammad Salim, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and MP.

He inaugurated the 8th State conference of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) here on Saturday on the theme `Karnataka free of communal hatred.'

Salim said wrong economic priorities, a faulty social agenda and a directionless plan for development were the hallmarks of the centrist and rightist parties that had ruled the country during the first phase of globalisation.

Salim said that economic reform without providing for employment generation was not just lopsided but also draconian, as it neglected the welfare aspect.

He said the Left parties were gaining acceptance, which was a sign of departure from centrist and rightist ideologies. The Left was on the rise not just in India but also in many parts of the world, particularly in Europe, South America and Nepal. But, he said, the ultra-leftist attitude (Naxalism) could not change a thing as recent history had shown.
