Chennai, Jun 1: Tamil Nadu government has banned the screening of the controversial movie Da Vinci Code in the state.
"The screening of the film may lead to demonstrations and disturb the peace and tranquility in the state," an official press release here said announcing the ban.
"The government has taken cognizance of the various reports and complaints received from the minority communities, particularly the Christian community, regarding the proposed screening of the movie," it said.
"It may hurt the religious feelings and sentiments of the Christian community."
After careful consideration of the situation, the government instructed all district collectors and Superintendents of Police to suspend screening of the movie, it added.
The film was proposed to be screened in Chennai and other towns in the state from June 2 as part of its country-wide release.
Members of the All India Christian Organisation and the National Christian Youth Movement had held demonstrations in the city earlier in the day protesting against the movie.
