Women, the Shapers of Modern Society

Women, the Shapers of Modern Society

March 8, 2014 (International Women's Day)

21st century women have risen to great positions in various key sectors making a significant contribution to the global economy. More and more women are looking at newer opportunities to exhibit their abilities. However, in spite of the evident progress of women, there is a lot to be done for the uplift and emancipation of women. The startling and glaring incidents of women being dehumanized shows that they still need to see the light of day.

Women do play a very vital role in the society. A family, who educates their girls, educates the next generation. Girls mature into women who for the most part oversee learning in the home and at school. When girls do not receive a well-rounded education, they cannot impart the same to their offspring. It is a simple, yet a profound truth. Woman of today needs to get her own identity because identity is the key for all human beings. It is imperative that a woman knows her strengths as well as her weaknesses so that she may be the best team member working cooperatively with all around her whether she is playing a game “at home” or “away”.

Women have always and will always be “working women”. Women nurture on the home front as they have done throughout time, but now women are stepping outside of the home to contribute in corporate, educational, social service, medical, financial, and a varying and endless list of career paths. Women have played important role in the society. So many women have impacted today’s society for the better. There is an endless list where many unsung women in various parts of our nation have changed lives and shaped destinies giving new direction to so many in the country. However, women have always had a challenging task to be in the forefront in a number of male-dominated sectors. Even though certain societal norms may not always be able to accommodate women in leadership, they have created opportunities for themselves to serve in the least likely places. Women definitely bring to the fore different skill sets as leaders with their multi-tasking, tremendous networking abilities.

The highest priority for our country to grow during this time is to cling to the rich value system and ensure human dignity all through. India has such depth of diversity and every citizen has to uphold and support the aspirations of women that they live with dignity and reach their rightful place in society.

Being a woman translates into hard work, determination and, quite naturally, comes with a calling from above to invest a lifetime into encouraging all those with whom a woman comes in contact. The woman is the foundation of the family and of society itself. Women today need to have faith in themselves and believe in their own God-given abilities and accept one’s unique skills and talents, learn to own them, and to use them fearlessly and contribute to the world. We have confidence in Isaiah, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Wishing you all a Happy Women’s Day!

@ David prakash , True , God does not discriminate between male and female , but he made them different and roles assigned to them are different. Its not the question of empowerment, but being complete with each other. Man being head of the family , works and protects , the woman keeps domestic roles of nourishing and caring. This is the equation , but modern radical feminist thoughts create an imbalance creating crisis. Its not role reversal but being responsible . Not compete, but complete. And being traditional is not regressive or archaic. And being educated does not mean say YES to the feminist movement.

Its a common sense to say being empowered means being true to oneself and family. Education is necessary, but it does not mean one should condemn traditional or religious thoughts like chastity , purity or even early marriage . Mother Mary was 12 years when she had blessed marriage and JESUS the saviour was born.

Wonderful Article, as the book of proverb says " As you think so you are" God doesn't make any discrimination between male, female, jew or greek, he looks at new creation. If you look yourself in Christ all the differences vanish away and a brand new image comes in, if you are in Christ you are a new creation, old things are passed away, behold all things have become new.
If we look ourselves(irrespective of gender)in this new creation, then love, joy, peace will flow through us and the world around us will be a wonderful place to live in.

The startling and glaring incidents of women being dehumanized shows that they still need to see the light of day. WHY ?
MAY BE THE SIN OF EATING APPLE OF FORBIDDEN TREE AND TEMPTING MAN TO EAT IT CAN BE FORGIVEN BUT CANNOT BE FORGOTTEN IN HISTORY .PRECAUTION IS NECESSARY.SO. WOMAN HAS TO OVER COME THIS STIGMA.
EVEN TODAY IN CORPORATE WORLD WOMEN LIKE RADIA ,SUNANDA PUSHKAR ARE PROJECTED TO BE SUCCESSFUL FOR SOME UNKNOWN TALENTS...NOT TO BE MENTIONED.BE CAREFUL ABOUT THIS TIP OF ICEBERG...!?

Mrs. Pinto, with no bias, your thoughts reflect today's realities where women are stepping out of the household in large numbers citing liberation. Your article is deeply biased and talks only about women. Men over centuries were the hand and legs of the household where women immensely contributed to bring up children and maintain the household. Today, both men and women are working some out of necessity some out of sheer ego. Children often are neglected, dumped in the child care centers with minimal parental love.
You being an educator, perhaps know this and should have reflected an un-biased views on women's day.

My father was bread earner and my mother was a bread giver. Both shared and cared and my mother or father did not talk about gender domination because they were wiser.

Today we are less wiser with gender biases.

Indeed, women's are shapers of modern society, but I wonder at cost?

My thoughts are St Joseph was a carpenter and a mason. Mother Mary I believe looked after Infant Jesus, of course helping Joseph. Indeed, she did not fight for equality I believe, but she may have shaped and educated jesus.

There should be a balance in societal living rather than gender based phenomena.

GOD created Woman as an equal partner with Man, not in any way inferior to Man. It is sad that the upper hand of the men were misled and the self-centered tricky role of the religions has created this social imbalance of the women and it is far late to change it.

Mrs. Grace Pinto, congratulations for your fine article. Until people like you won't talk, the situation can't change rapidly, so keep up the good work and speak in high volume and GOD bless you.

    Happy International women's day.

Happy Women's day for all who contributed immensely and society as a whole , be it mother , sister , wife , girlfriend and daughter. God in its infinite wisdom created woman from part of man , to be loyal , responsible and caring towards man. Lets also condemn feminist and feminazi kind of views which are fuelling crisis in today world , which takes woman from traditional roles they are assigned. Every kid in a household needs motherly love and needs care 24*7 , so happy family contributes to happy society.

Also, there are lot of man who are reason for a woman's success and often not credited for that. Lets also work for equality for men too , since they lack moral help in crisis or even related to law as they are biased towards them. Men feed the family , so if not justice for them the whole family suffers including wife and children.
