Latest eToilet model to be unveiled at Delhi fair

Thiruvananthapuram, March 17 (IANS): Eram Scientific Solutions Monday announced it will unveil its latest eToilet model at the "Reinvent the Toilet Fair" to be held in Delhi later this month.

Eram Scientific, based in the Kerala capital, is an innovator-cum-manufacturer of eToilets.

With the launch of India's first electronic public toilets in 2010, its flagship product eToilet has now crossed more than 400 installations in 10 states.

The "Reinvent the Toilet Fair" is being co-hosted by the Indian government's department of biotechnology and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation March 21-22.

The latest eToilet Imperial Model offers salient features like coin/card-based access, self-washing and cleaning mechanisms, sensor-enabled water conservation, automatic seat sterilisation, vacuum flushing mechanism, air-conditioned interiors, touch-free switches, automatic urinal and sensor-enabled wash basin.

The toilet fair will also encourage partnerships to improve global sanitation and bring affordable sanitation solutions to people who need it most.

Around 50 exhibits will be on display during the two-day fair.

K. Vijay Raghavan, secretary of the department of biotechnology, said that of the 1.1 billion people across the world who defecate in the open, almost 60 percent are Indian.

"Today, because of a lack of toilets and poorly functioning infrastructure, massive amounts of untreated waste winds up in the environment, spreading disease," said Brian Arbogast, director of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene team at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Siddeek Ahmed, chairman and managing director of the Eram-ITL Group of Companies, said: "Eram is assiduously working to improve public sanitation through our fully automated and electronically managed toilets, to open the doors to quality sanitation infrastructure to the common man."
