Ahmedabad, Jun 13: Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers burnt effigies of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and cine star Aamir Khan in protest against their anti-Narmada stand, on Ashram Road area of the city on Monday evening.
The BJP activists led by local leader Shankar Chaudhary burnt the effigies and recite 'Ram Dhun' (chanting of names of Lord Rama) amid anti-Sonia and anti-Aamir slogans.
They also a made special prayer for fast recovery of 20-year-old Pravind Gopal Joshi, who attempted self-immolation by pouring five litres of petrol on his body in the toilet of Ambar Cinema hall in Jamnagar city, yesterday. Pravin hails from the port town of Porbandar.
The BJP is protesting the release of 'Fanaa' in Gujarat because Aamir had made anti-Narmada statement and supported the Narmada Bachao Andolan activist Medha Patkar's statenments made at New Delhi last month.
'Fanaa' is the second movie of Aamir which is facing BJP Yuva Morcha ban from being released in cinema house in Gujarat. Earlier his starer 'Rang De Basanti' had invited protest for his comment resulting into withdrawal from screening from all cinema houses in Gujarat.
