Brisk polling in Puducherry

Puducherry, April 24 (IANS): Brisk balloting is in progress at all polling stations here with as many as 30 candidates vying for the lone Lok Sabha seat. Just over 35 percent of the 901,357 voters had exercised their franchise till 12 noon, an official said.

The polling process was running smoothly, the official added.

"Polling is peaceful. All three in our family have voted. As there are 30 candidates, searching for the right button on the voting machine was a bit tedious," V.G. Gopinath, a voter told IANS.

Congress candidate V. Narayanasamy was one of the early voters. Later, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy of AINRC party also voted.

In the 2009 general elections, the voter turnout was 79.85 percent in the union territory, which is a former French colony.
