Bangalore, Jun 25: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said the government was determined to keep the surging prices of essential commodities under control and would take further measures "as and when the situation arises."

"We are determined to keep the prices under control. We have already announced day before yesterday (the measures to check price rise). As and when the situation arises, further measures will be taken," he told reporters before leaving for New Delhi after a two-day visit to Karnataka.

Concerned over the surging prices of essential commodities, the government on June 21 banned export of pulses, allowed private players to import wheat and limited import of sugar.
