Mangalore: Contesting from AAP was a miscalculated move: M R Vasudeva

Shreyas H S
Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, May 21: In a post defeat statement to daijiworld, drubbed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate M R Vasudeva, who managed to garner only 5442 votes in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections, admitted that his decision to contest the elections was a miscalculated move. He said he failed to understand the ineffective structure of the district unit of AAP before the party chose him as its candidate.

The financial deficiency coupled with lack of manpower hindered him from carrying out a vociferous campaign across the district, he said.

"There was strong opposition within the party to my candidature as I did not hold the primary membership of the party before being chosen as a candidate. This had sparked internal bickering in the AAP and a few people created much clamour. Many in the AAP backed me strongly, infusing courage and toiling hard for my success," he said.

When asked if the AAP had followed the norms in selecting the candidate as promised earlier, he said he was unaware if any such procedure was followed by the party. "I was requested by the party members to contest the elections, following which I filed my name. I agreed to enter the fray to serve the people of the district. I was moved by the anti-corruption agitation that gradually gained momentum across the country," he said.

"The party structure in the district was very fragile as it was marred with differences of opinion. There was no consensus among the party workers on many strategies drawn ahead of parliamentary elections. There was no active participation of the cadres to bring in votes for the AAP," he explained.

He also attributed his humiliating defeat to the party's top brass. The AAP led by Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi relinquished the administration without consulting the voters. "People across the nation lost hopes on the party due to the political situation that unraveled in Delhi," Vasudeva said.

He hinted that he would actively participate in the party's activities in the coming days, if the party assigns him specific assignments.

Mr. Vasudeva, please do not lose heart, but accept with courage the present situation as aam aadmi like us need your support to get rid of corruption. All the corrupt people have had their fill over 60 years as well as during this election. Even though they have won, truth will come to surface very soon as truth always floats. Who is there for aam aadmi like us to fight for our rights. Its good to have AAP for us who will hear a poor man's voice.
First and foremost, I don't think this was a free and fair election. The Modi-wave was only projected by the media because some of the journalists too stated that there was no such wave but was shown on TVs where the people who just depended on media news, could believe. On the contrary it was good to have AAP as an alternative and an opposition otherwise it would be just between two parties. Now at least there is somebody to watch over their shoulders. I think we have to admire Mr. Kejriwal's courage, as over all these years there was no one in this entire nation to confront these so-called giants Ambani/Adani and Modi to expose certain things that were killing the poor man and to raise a voice for the people of the country. If anyone needs to know the person, he/she should understand the person in depth and not just believe the media.

Also, going for Lok Sabha election it gave the people a platform and a chance to know that there is an alternative for them and not just between Congress or BJP. Now that AAP is spread over the entire nation people are aware of them. And whatever it is, AAP has done better compared to Congress as within a short span of time they were able to win 4 seats as well as the overall votes and moreover, AAP has won over 1 crore hearts. Of course, one could say that Mr. Kejriwal's resignation effected the election. Yes, it could be a mistake by not going back to the people before resigning, as people did not understand his resignation was principle based.

    Dear Vasudev,

The 2 big parties exists since independence. They have done a lot of good things and bad things as well. Neither all MLA's/MP's are corrupt nor all MLA's/MP's are genuine. Its all depends of person to person. This is the first time AAP is contesting. It will take years to win the hearts of voters. There are lot of villages and a huge public knows only those 2 parties. Its not like mushroom which comes in a day-night and vanish. AAP would have done a lot now if AK is still CM in delhi. They would have waited untill now and would have done a great job instead fingering others. There is some political setup and its not a day-night process to change it. Your party should have some reasonable vision. You can not stop corruption permanently. However you can control by implementing suitable controls. Youth should be encouraged and given more opportunities to work for party and nation. Try to concentrate on your vision and work towards it rather than diverting the minds of public. This time public also proved that they are not stupid. Hope MODI sarkar will do good and won’t give chance to others.

the spontaneous responses on the road got from public made me to miscalculate. However sree saamanya likes to know what AAP is offering in the matter of governance as against BJP& congress . inexperience in case of others is not being commented at all. I have seen many ministers not knowing anything reigning & getting a good administrator tag. it is surprising that people wont see infighting in other parties to be worthy of comment all had their share.

The AAP suffered defeat due to the immature political moves done by thier leaders .Mr Vasudeva is a gentleman and good public servant, but politcs is a different ball game ,what happens at the TOP snowballs to the bottom. The AAP as a party could be the third strong front, but they have to prove themselves and regain the trust of the people ,all is not lost yet,as of now Shri Modi has the trust of the people.

Whatever it is...AAP made all political leaders to talk about DEVELOPMENT and forced bring out pro agenda or Promises, etc. This is AAP made aware to public about Politicians & Business leaders wrong doings with their safe & age old Corrupt systems. This is because of AAP, BJP is taken ood place and Modi who really strived hard is greatly benefited. Let us see how the Country benefits. He is good leader with a group of selfish people......now the elected leaders become Kings instead servants of the country as usual.

Except Mr. Vasudeva, all the other AAP candidates in Karnataka, especially in Blr were non-kannadiga's! Pretty shocking to have Tamilian's, Mallu's and Telgu speaking MP candidates from Karnatak, but that is exactly why the AAP is now called a retarded party that has absolutely no pulse of the common-man. One good thing about Vasudeva is that he brought in public attention to teh loot happening in Toll-gates by the Cong-I appointed contractors.

Kejriwal and you can join any labor association and engage yourself in strikes everyday. May be people will give you some medals instead of slaps. Dear Vasudeva, please advise your Kejriwal to dissolve your party as early as possible. Your AAP elected MLAs in Delhi are planning to join BJP very soon. Your motive was split the congress votes and help BJP. But why indirectly, please help BJP by officially joining that party. We didn't forget you were a Namo Brigade member.

All who had a political ambition, to raise to main party positions(district level) in hurry, formed AAP units in evry part of India.
There are many districts where there are 2 party units lead by different people.
Now almost more than half of these units across India have dissolved.

Another point is that Mr. Vasudev has echoed the same words that majority of lost AAP candidates said

This was expected and I have no doubt that AAP will wither away within 1 or 2 years. this party was the offshoot of Anna movement who made some noise and now gone in hybernation. both Aap and Anna only helped BJP to make more noise about Congress and unproven corruption charges.
AAP doesn't have the party structure nor the money power to fight an election of the size and magnitude that we have just seen. If Modi has won the election is only by spending crores and crores(Thanks to Ambani/Adani/Tata)and making all kinds of false propaganda of congress. the news channels took his negative campaign and supported him like they are BJP owned. All the TV anchors are so much supportive to BJP it was evident in their rhetoric and making BJP is the only clean party in India(without corruption) and Modi is the saviour. Take Arnav Goswami, Rajdeep Sardesai and Kanwal of HLT or for that matter all Hindi channel anchors, everyone of them were making Modi namaskar when they start their day. this kind of one sided publicity put all the parties down(not just congress) and we have not seen such an united force of Parties, Media and people against congress so far since 1971. adding to the woes of congress, a prime minister who cannot speak, Rahul's inexperience and unco-ordinated election campaign made congress come to their knees. They totally failed in reaching out to people and communication with media. Even now they are allowing these channels to continue their negative campaign against congress. they are virtually sleeping. My ony concern is whether India will become a one party nation and the secular fabric of India will become an history. This is definitely not what our leaders at the time of independence wanted.

We have to really congratulate the 5000 voters of DK and 1.1 crore voters of India who voted for AAP even though they knew AAP is not going to win or has very less chance to win. They just wanted to give a moral support for AAP to fight again corruption in coming elections. They wanted to keep criminals and corrupts keep away from Parliament. In 2014 election percentage of MPs in the new Lok Sabha with Criminal cases is 34%. While all other parties has significant number of MPs with criminal cases, none of Aam Aadmi Party's 4 MPs have even one criminal case against them. Many of the MPs in this Lok Sabha, with criminal cases have serious charges likes rape, abduction and murder. They want to defeat these people.

There were several mistakes committed by AAP which costed this massive defeat.

    1. Resigning from Delhi, and dissolution of the delhi govt.
    2. They contested for 434 seats, instead they should have focused on atleast 100 -150 seats looking on their budget etc etc..
    3. Arvind kejriwal challenging Modi and contesting against him.
    4. Inexperience candidates contesting from most of the seats.
    5. The last one, Arvind kejriwal was in a very much hurry to come in Power.

Do you mean AAP also had this 'Primaries', Secondaries' something which was propagated with disastrous results for the Congress by Rahul? Some American s##it style of functioning? I mean if you eat Indian food how can you s##it American? And also would like to ask you straightforward this question...What office bearers
off AAP in M'lore? All available at PEGzzzzzzzzzzzzzz or at different counters with Officer's
Choice or with a choice of their own.For a fledgling party the 'airs' some people concerned with
AAP had was shocking to say the least. Infighting when the 'baby' was hardly 'cradled' is how one can sum it up.
