Punjab sacks jail warden for supplying drugs

Chandigarh, June 4 (IANS): The Punjab government has ordered the dismissal of a jail warden who was allegedly involved in the supply of drugs to jail inmates, a state government spokesman said Wednesday.

The head warden, Ajmer Singh, who was posted at Central Jail in Kapurthala, 175 km from here, was accused of helping a jail inmate purchase heroin worth Rs. 1,48,000.

The dismissed warden has been barred from any government job in the future.

The supply and use of drugs in Punjab's jails is rampant. The state government has started a campaign against the drugs menace after drawing flak for being unable to control it.
