Don't jump to conclusions on Modi: Digvijay tells Tharoor

New Delhi, Jun 6 (PTI): Congress spokesperson Shashi Tharoor, who has come under fire from party leaders for praising Narendra Modi, today got a piece of advice from party general secretary Digvijay Singh "not to jump to conclusions".

"Modi Avtar 2? Let's not jump to conclusions but wait and watch," Digvijay Singh said on Twitter today.

The party had yesterday distanced itself from Tharoor's praise of Modi describing them as his "personal views".

Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar had also slammed Tharoor calling him "immature" and a "chameleon".

Aiyar also said he was "deeply disappointed" that an "intelligent" man like Tharoor should want to rush to judgement in this manner and come out with this effusive remarks.

Tharoor, tweeted last night "I stand by every 1of my criticisms of @narendramodi in the past just as I appreciate his words in the present. Will watch his future actions."

In another tweet, he also said, "Indian liberals shd understand we can only win on the quality of our arguments, not the intensity of our anger. Our virtue isn't self-evident."

Earlier, in a US news website, Tharoor remarked that Modi was looking to turn himself from a "hate figure into an avatar of modernity and progress".

While addressing a press conference from the AICC podium on Wednesday, Tharoor said that the way Modi conducted himself after the election and spoke from the moment of his victory he "has been amazingly gracious and accommodative" of even those who had not voted for him.

"We should acknowledge that this may the evolution of Modi 2.0 but if Modi 1.0 reemerges, then we will robustly oppose him," he had said.

Yesterday, Tharoor while making it clear that he "cannot be called a fan of Modi" said that he was intrigued by the fact that the paraphrases of his piece that he has seen in the Indian media, showed that people don't actually read every word and every nuance.

I appreciate Donny Lobo's views. As long as communalism is not allowed to raise its ugly head and there is only talk about addressing people's problems anybody is welcome to lead this country. Congress failed miserably in this task.

But any party in that kind of coalition mess would have been the same.

Modiji has demonstrated to everyone that he is the Prime Minister and he will decide how to govern and with whom to govern. Irrespective of their seniority he has kept seniors like Advaniji, Murli Manohar Joshi , Yashwant Sinha etc on the sidelines and also made quite exemplary moves like inviting Prime Minister of Pakistan for his inauguration and instructed the sycophants not to fall at his feet like some partymen in one South Indian state regularly do to their party leader.

Irrespective of his past , he seems to be firmly but tactfully keeping even RSS , VHP and others away from the centre stage and prevent them from exerting or dictate terms or impose their diktats. Since elections he has hardly uttered any unsavory comments against his predecessors or started witch hunting like the way the Janata Party rushed into promptly after they came to power in 1977 especially against the then Senior Congress leaders like Indira Gandhi etc.

I feel Shashi Tharoor’s observations should not be brushed aside easily and as he says if a real enlightened and experienced Modi 2 is emerging and will govern the country as complex as ours, it certainly will be a boon for the country.

It is absolutely childish statement by Shashi Tharoor to jump into praises of his political opponent. I can understand his modesty or the intentions of scoring some brownie points, but the effect of Modi government is still tobe seen. I appreciate the steps he has taken in making the offices of Ministers and bureaucrats moving but we need to see what it will bring to common people in terms of reducing inflation and bringing development. A opponent has to wait and see what good or bad comes out of adversary before showering praises. Digvijay Singh is absolutely right in advising his junior colleague to shut his mouth and wait. Digvijay's experience must be regarded and he is a seasoned politician.

I will put maximum effort to ensure you get convinced with BJP Government, particularly lead by Modi. inally it is up to you to get convinced or not. I can wake up "sleeping person", not the one who is "acting as if sleeping"

Already Ganga rejuvenation job started and in the next week the blueprint will be ready. Dredging will be done to remove the silt of Ganga and make her crystal clean. Similarly other rivers. Then joining them one by one. This was the dream of Vajapayee but will be realised by Modi (Both BJPians)

I have tried my best to convince you that Ab Ki Baar Modi Sarkaar, you did not, but the reality is it is Modi Sarkaar. Hope you woke up. Similarly I will ensure you will wake up when rivers are linked.

If Modi & his Cabinet was honest why they had to ban bringing Mobile Phones & Pen-Cameras inside all Ministers' Offices ? Are they afraid that they will be caught in the act. How is that Power Brokers like Neera Radia have again appeared in power Corridor ?
If they were Honest they would have freely allowed cameras, mobiles to be bought inside Ministers' Offices and also banned the entry of Power brokers like Radia.

Kiran..for congress supporters this election is not about development, its about ideology communal & sickular, chai wala, snoopgate,Godhra..Congress dragged all sorts of communal issues during election..For BJP no hidden agenda, they already d MODI as PM candidate..Its democracy vote OR dont vote..finally people elected BJP & MODI..now Congress should not ask about development..people like me dont expect miracle from MODI in 5 days or 5 years..we dont have any problem continuing UPA policies..we expect MODI govern with efficiancy without corruption..the total corruption figures during UPA crossed the budget of 5 years plan!! If MODI controls corruption in higher its more than enough for 'ACCHE DIN'..finally, now elections are polarised thanks to Congress appeasement policies(they think only 15% of the population votes in INDIA)..If Congis dont change their mindest this trend going to continue..

Digvijay is a forgotten thing. India needs a cure for the disease. Modi is the doctor. He can and will cure the diseases of India. A sharp statesman, a good leader, and perhaps a disciplined administrator.
What sash did is a right thing. An honest opinion. It hurts Congress because Modi is not a comparison to Congress leaders or Gandhis. Modi is much better as a leader and a follower.
