Missing children: SC seeks compliance report on its direction

New Delhi, July 14 (IANS): The Supreme Court Monday asked NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan to file a report giving details of the states that have complied with its earlier order on recovering missing children.

A bench of Justice H.L.Dattu and Justice Arun Mishra asked senior counsel H.S.Phoolka to prepare a report after compiling the status reports filed by the different states.

The court also directed that the standing operating procedures (SOP) prepared by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) be circulated to the state to seek their response.

The court gave Phoolka two weeks time to complete the task.

Bachpan Bachao Andolan has moved the court seeking formulation of a national action plan for the recovery of the missing children and prosecution of those involved in their kidnapping and trafficking.

The NGO has said that 11 children go missing in the country every hour and one third of them remain untraced.
