Margao, Sep 7: Deputy chief minister Dr Wilfred De Souza, who also holds the environment portfolio, on Thursday visited the Cuncolim area, which has been affected by pollution from industries and said that he would come out with solutions within 48 hours to tackle the problem.
 
Over the last three years, the locals people have been facing the problem of pollution created by chemical industries in the nearby areas. Here, Industrial solid waste can be seen at the side of the road, as a result of which wells and rivers have turned polluted.  
 
People has served an ultimatum on the government to shut down the industries which create the pollution, with a deadline of a month to comply with. If the government failed, then the people themselves would close them down, they say.
 
De Souza further said that he would study the legal aspects of the same issue and will give his decision.
 
While speaking to the media, he said that the area was indeed in bad condition.

“I am a doctor, and I know how the people would suffer from this. I will take a step towards the betterment of the people." he said further.
