Bangalore, Sep 12: Stating that a woman had always been looked down upon by her counterpart, Geetha Nagabhushana, President, Karnataka Sahitya Academy, said that even many mythological references to a woman was unbecoming.
Addressing the gathering during the ‘Contemporary Kannada Literature and Feminism’, organised by the Acharya Pathashala College of Arts and Science, recently, she said that women were not only branded as the inferior sex, but atrocities like sexual harassment and the like were on a rise.
She said that ‘Call-centre killing’ was the latest attack on women, where a woman was being exploited because of her vulnerability. She also said that it was a shame that the government had not looked into the matter of increasing female foeticide, and added that the effects of imbalance in the male-female ratio was already showing in states like Punjab and Haryana.
