Modi's Make in India pitch to extend red carpet for investors

New Delhi, Sept 25 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will roll out a red carpet to attract industrialists to make India a global manufacturing hub, to help create jobs and boost economic growth.

Before he embarks on his high profile US visit slated from September 26-30, Modi will launch the Make in India campaign at a mega event here today.

The campaign is aimed at making India a manufacturing hub, and the government is pulling out all the stops for ensuring a smooth sailing for investors, by setting up a dedicated cell to answer queries of business entities within 72 hours. It will also closely monitor all regulatory processes to make them simple and reduce the burden of compliance.

"The government is committed to chart out a new path, wherein business entities are extended red carpet welcome in a spirit of active cooperation. Invest India will act as the first reference point for guiding foreign investors on all aspects of regulatory and policy issues and to assist them in obtaining regulatory clearances," said an official statement.

Various prominent national and international industry leaders are likely to attend the programme to launch the campaign along with Ministers, senior officials, Ambassadors and opinion leaders.

The government has identified 25 key sectors in which our country has the potential of becoming a world leader. The Prime Minister will be releasing separate brochures for these sectors along with a general brochure.

The brochures covering sectors like automobiles, chemicals, IT, pharmaceuticals, textiles, ports, aviation, leather, tourism and hospitality, wellness, railways among others will provide details of growth drivers, investment opportunities, sector specific FDI and other policies and related agencies.

Investor facilitation cell will provide assistance to the foreign investors from the time of their arrival in the country to the time of their departure, with focus on green and advanced manufacturing and helping these companies to become an important part of the global value chain.

The campaign will be launched at national as well as state level and in Missions abroad. It will target top companies across sectors in identified countries. It also aims to identify select domestic companies having leadership in innovation and new technology for turning them into global champions.

The initiative has its origin in the Prime Minister's Independence Day speech where he gave a clarion call to 'Make in India' and 'Zero Defect; Zero Effect' policy.

A dedicated cell has been created through the web portal (www.makeinindia.com) to answer queries from business entities. While an exhaustive set of FAQs on this portal will help the investor find instant answers to their general queries, the back-end support team of the cell would be answering specific queries within 72 hours.

A pro-active approach will be deployed to track visitors for their geographical location, interest and real-time user behaviour. Subsequent visits will be customised for the visitor based on the information collected. Visitors registered on the website or raising queries will be followed up with relevant information and newsletter.

Mr. Shetty, if the atmosphere of secularism is disappeared from India, foreign investors are not going to come to India. See the discord created by some radical religious fanatics of India. Do you think that foreign investors are going to gamble with their investment in a fighting surrounding? Though I am from Kerala, even with their high literacy rate, many foreign companies are not comfortable with to invest in Kerala but will shift to Tamil Nadu, like the BMW factory did at the last minute. Due to the high literacy rate of Kerala, less religious frictions are seen, but the age old political virus of communism is still intact in Kerala and many foreign companies will not be happy to invest in such a surrounding. Likewise, if Mr. Modi is anticipating foreign investment, he must take a firm stand to keep India as " secular", else the great vision of turning India as dreamland for the foreign investors will turn like a fantasy dream, and the red carpet will be changing color to black carpet.

Mr. Modi's dream of turning India as a manufacturing country is a vital dream to make India prosperous. Playing with the stock market game and the establishment of a few mega industries in India will not transform India as a productive nation but only through thousands of small enterprises where the masses of India can be turned as productive employees thus their purchasing power will increase and the economy will grow fast. To reach that goal, Mr. Modi has to take double actions to eradicate the red tape-corruption and terribly broken infrastructure of India. The foreign automobile manufacturers have already given their displeasure about the above mentioned setbacks in India.

Besides, there must be a peaceful atmosphere in India, both in the labor sector and religious sector, else the red carpet will not bring many investors to walk over the red carpet.

    All the best wishes.

This is an flop idea. At present China is a largest global manufacturing hub. Most of the international branded products like Mobiles, Automobiles, computers etc. are manufactured in China. India cannot give tough competition to China with price because China made products are very cheaper in the market. Secondly some people in India never allow to establish Industries in their surroundings. They will start to make strikes. PM have to look for some other better options instead of wasting time on it.

Actually I first learnt what the meaning of hatred for fellow country men was in 2002.
I also learnt it was hatred for fellow countrymen that got the Father of our nation Mahatma Gandhi killed.
I also learnt it was hatred that got people distributing sweets when the Mahatma was assassinated.
It was also hatred when many from the BD and RSS were found to be accused of involvement in the massacre of Sikhs in 1984.
It was also hatred that got the Babri Masjid broken to bits on December 6, 1992.

Don't you Chhadis ever try to teach us what hatred and what spewing venom means. You'll are the masters of that.

True. What is going on is only media manipulation, hype, so that the foolish public can go gaga over his statements to keep his 'created' popularity up. Stock market is rising as FII investments are rising only based on sentiment created from his statements and not from strong economic fundamentals which are still poor. This just a bubble.

Yes we must think positive but everyone knows currently the Indian Economy's Financial Situation/Position!!!

It will take a long time to recover Indian Economy back to the saddle!!! And I doubt our current Finance Minister Mr.Arun Jaitley is capable enough and can steer the Indian Economy!!!.

There is an old saying ....No one can bite off more than you can chew.!!! and that's what Mr. Narendra Modi is all about for India and he will take back India at least a few couple of years from the path of growth/progress!!!

But my question is if you bring back black money then India will be cash rich. U can build a fortune with black money then there is no need to call FDI, Or ask China, Japan to invest in India. I know there are lot of hassles to bring black money back but y did BJP fool people by promising to bring back black money in 100 days? Only now BJP realised that there are lot of hassles? U need bilateral agreements etc etc? Or are they waiting for the BJP ministers & big industrial houses who funded for their election campaign to transfer their black money to another safe place? Lot of us know that a major part of Swiss economy is run on black money so it is not easy for swiss govt to let this money go.If you really want this to happen then its not impossible. "FDI in retail is opposed as a policy, cos small shop owners or mom n pop shops can not compete with WALMART and COSCOs cos of lack of resources"!! also, they will source cheaper onions or bananas from vietnam or somehwere, but can local shops do that..? will the farmers sustain such losses? and that policy is here to stay!! nobody has told them not to sell anything here.. only such walmart chains r discouraged!! by all means if you want bring something from china and sell it here, if it follows IMPORT policy, you are very free to do it! .. so if a foreign company starts manufacturing here, they can sell it here, also export it from here to their destined countries..!! got it?

And yes, we sell Mahndira scorpios, to Hero bikes to potateoes, to aapus mangoes, to gems, jewellery, to pharma products, to heavy machineries, clothes!!!

Rahul Gandhi se bhi buddhu hote jaa rahe ho... !!

Foreign company don't come to India as they have pay bribe to get everything done. I Know from a person who works for a worldwide company who have offices all over the world except India. Get rid of corruption starting from central ministers to CM and state ministers and babus then investments will come pouring in.

FLAVIAN DSOUZA, CHIK/BANAGLORE, Vodafone case created by Chidambaram in 2009, still it is being dragged on in many courts. I'm sure Jaitley is looking at ways to bail them out

Please understand telecom sector was killed & driven out by UPA 2. So many companies shut operations & had to leave the country. Millions lost cushy jobs...Why were you quiet then??

We have ruled the services sector!! we have good amount of focus on Agriculture and milk products, post green revilution/white revolution!! now this Manufacturing sector push should help us acieive growth, jobs etc!! remember china was nothing until 1980s!! we cant rely on OIl money... but we do have good labour force.. with their skill upgrade we can do wonders!!

When people said, SWADESHI.. everybody hated BJP! and wanted to show their imported china made goods here in india.... then when open economy brought in china's cheap goods, they said, ohh Modi is doign business with china- they will sell everything will cheaply and our industry will die down!!... and now when Modi pushes for "Make in india-sell everywhere" these Jossey kinda fekus right, what about FDI in retail...!! bhai samajh nahi aata.. kaan ke beech kuch bhi hai ya SARIN GAS bhara hai? :-D

Dont pitch..... practice it. With your pitches you are simply diverting the real issues faced by common people. Even MEDIA as become MODIA

Am sorry but the above news in English which you don't seem to understand.

No where its conditioned that they have to sell their stuff in India. They are only invited to manufacture. Selling is wherever they wish. There is a difference between investing in manufacturing in one country & selling goods by importing it form another country, not like your yesterday's Beer & Whiskey logic. Drink some Lemonade, it helps.
