Speaker asks staff to streamline record keeping

New Delhi, Oct 20 (IANS): Speaker Sumitra Mahajan Monday visited different offices in the Lok Sabha secretariat and called upon the staff to streamline management of records and pay utmost attention to cleanliness.

Mahajan said the Lok Sabha secretariat should strive to streamline its record management system in line with the best practices available.

She suggested that the feasibility of e-files should be explored and redundant documents should be weeded out.

According to an official press release, Mahajan was also apprised of the progress in a new building of the secretariat.

The speaker said that cleanliness was next to Godliness and impressed upon the officers and staff to maintain utmost hygiene.

According to the release, Mahajan said that common toilets were "not conducive to the privacy of individuals" and separate toilets should be provided for male and female staff as also for visitors to parliament house.

She also called for assessing the total volume of work related to printed reports during the past 10 years so that a mechanism could be evolved for moving towards a paperless office.
