Kabul, Nov 15 (IANS): A soldier of the NATO-led coalition was killed during an attack in Afghanistan, the coalition forces said Saturday morning.
"An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member died as a result of an enemy forces attack in northern Afghanistan Nov 14, 2014," the ISAF said in a statement.
The statement gave neither the nationality of the victim nor the details about the incident under ISAF policy, Xinhua reported.
The war-torn country is due to take over the responsibility for its own security from foreign troops by the end of the year.
More than 34,000 NATO-led coalition troops, down from the peak of 130,000 in 2010, are presently stationed in Afghanistan. Nearly 24,000 of them are Americans and the US plans to trim its forces to less than 10,000 next year.
The latest casualty has brought the number of foreign soldiers killed in Afghanistan to 69 so far this year.
