Bus set afire in Bangladesh amid political unrest

Dhaka, Jan 8 (IANS): A bus has been set afire at a busy intersection in capital Dhaka amid the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led opposition alliance's transport blockade.

Fire service said no one was injured in Thursday noon's arson attack. Control room operator Nilufar Yasmin said miscreants hurled a Molotov cocktail at a Mirpur-bound bus, according to bdnews24.com.

Two fire-fighting units doused the flames around 3 p.m.

Sporadic arson attacks have been reported in the capital since BNP chief Khaleda Zia called for the blockade Monday.

Ramped up security measures have apparently failed to deter the blockade supporters.

Apart from police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), border guards too have been out on the streets for the past several days to curb violence.

Altogether six buses were set on fire Tuesday while four more were torched Wednesday evening.
