Egypt court sets April 21 as date for Morsi verdict

Cairo, Jan 8 (IANS): The Cairo Criminal Court Thursday set April 21 as the date for issuing its verdict in the trial of ousted president Mohamad Morsi and 14 others charged with inciting the killing of demonstrators outside Ittihadiya presidential palace late in 2012.

Clashes broke out outside Ittihadiya Palace when Morsi issued a controversial constitutional decision immunising his decisions against challenge, state-run MENA news agency reported.

Morsi and his co-defendants, including several top Muslim Brotherhood leaders, are charged with inciting the murder of opposition demonstrators during clashes that broke out between the banned Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group's supporters and opponents outside the presidential palace.

Seven of the defendants are being tried in absentia.
