Mangalore, Apr 6: MSW students working under Sparsha Youth Counseling Centre submitted a memorandum to state chief minister H D Kumaraswami and home minister M P Prakash urging them to take steps to put a ban on all kinds of 'bandhs' in the district.

The meeting took place on Friday, March 30 in Bangalore. Twenty thousand students have signed the memorandum before its submission. It has been pointed out that on account of several instances of bandh in the recent past, the student community has suffered extensively, most importantly because of cancellation of classes.

Students staying in hostels have faced food shortage in such times, it has been pointed out. Therefore, said the students, the bandhs should be banned outright.

Upon receiving the memorandum, both the chief minister and the home minister gave an assurance to the students that necessary action would be taken to restrict the bandhs to safeguard the interests of the student community.

Sparsha Youth Counseling Centre's chief patron Ronald Colaco, president Roshan Castelino, secretary Denis Dsilva, students of Alva’s College of Social Work, Srinivas College of Management Studies, St Aloysius College of Social Work, M V Shetty College of Social Work, MSW Department of Mangalore University, Karavali Group of Colleges, Sridevi Institute of Social work and Birur MLA S L Dharmegowda were present in the delegation.
