Mangalore, Apr 7: “If the Muslim community is still considered to be economically and academically backward community, the leaders and the government are equally responsible to this. Owing to their petty interests and selfish motives, they have pushed the community to a pathetic state,” said K Rehman Khan, chairman of Rajya Sabha.
He was speaking after inaugurating a library in Al-Badriya English Medium School at Krishnapur VII Block. The library has been built at a total cost of Rs 10 lac on the occasion of decennial celebrations of the school.
He further said that the Muslims as well as the entire nation has learnt the importance of education now. So it is the right time that government encourages education. Only education could be the answer to a number of problems faced by Muslims and even the nation, he added.
He announced that he would contribute Rs 5 lac from his MP’s fund for Al-Badriya School. He also assured that he would try to channel some funds from the special fund created by union government under Maulana Azaad Foundation.
Former minister B A Moidin presided over the function while Abdulla Kunhi of Islamic Academy of Education released the souvenir and former Udupi MP Vinay Kumar Sorake gave memento to the first batch of SSLC students.
Suratkal MLA H Krishna Palemar, former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty, noted entrepreneur Ahmad Hajji Thumbe, Dakshina Kannada Congress minority wing president B A Moidin Bava, corporators Savita Sundar Shetty, Gulzar Banu, Minority Commission former president K M Masood etc were present on the occasion.
