Cong rakes up Gujarat riots, IC-814 hijack; BJP hits back

New Delhi, Jul 3 (PTI): Congress today raked up the post-Godhra riots issue against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, latching onto the claims by former RAW chief A S Dulat to demand that Modi apologise for the communal violence in 2002 when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

The party also questioned BJP's commitment to fighting terrorism and alleged it was wearing a "mask of nationalism". Citing certain claims by Dulat including on the "goof up" in the IC-814 hijack in 1999, he accused the ruling party of always compromising with terrorists and terrorism.

Party spokesman Ajoy Kumar launched a scathing attack on Modi, saying "Dulat says that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee believed that he lost the 2004 elections in view of the Gujarat riots...Bharat Ratna Vajpayee has clearly condemned ...the shameful incidents of 2002."

He said it was Vajpayee who had reminded "Chief Minster Modi to follow raj dharma".

"Will Narendra Modi respect the words of the Bharat Ratna and apologise to the country for 2002?”, Kumar asked while talking to reporters.

The handling of the Gujarat riots by Modi has been at the centre of a controversy.

Kumar said the interview by former chief of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) has brought "certain disturbing facts" in the open including that the Vajpayee government was in "active communication" with the Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin and even admitted his son to a medical course.

"It shows the pseudo-nationalism of the BJP.... Whenever in power, it has compromised with terrorists and terrorism," he alleged, adding that Saluhaddin and his organisation was responsible for the killings of thousands in the country.

He said it also exposed that the BJP was only wearing "mask of nationalism".

Turning to the IC-814 hijack, the Congress spokesman said that Dulat believed that the Crisis Management Group "failed miserably" and allowed the plane to leave Amritsar which led to the release of three dreaded terrorists.

Noting that senior leaders in the then government were part of the Crisis Management Group, Kumar said that it needed to be made clear as to under what circumstances the plane was allowed to leave Amritsar and who was responsible for that.

If the plane had been halted at Amritsar, it would have saved the lives of a large number of innocent persons, he said, adding this was because three dreaded terrorists including Masood Azhar were released to secure release of passengers of the hijacked plane.

He said that the tradeoff proved costly as the release of the three terrorists resulted in the killing of thousands of people with Masood Azhar leading the campaign of hate from Pakistan.

IC-814 hijack: BJP hits back at Congress criticism

New Delhi, Jul 3 (IANS): The BJP on Friday hit back at the Congress' criticism of its handling of the 1999 IC-814 hijack crisis, and said the decision to release terrorist was taken at the "highest level".

"On Kandahar, consultations were held at the highest level by senior leaders of National Democratic Alliance," Bharatiya Janaata Party spokesperson M.J. Akbar told reporters here.

Former chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) A.S. Dulat on Thursday said no clear instructions were given to police on December 24, 1999, when the hijacked Indian Airlines plane landed in Amritsar. Because of this, the hijackers took off the plane to Kandahar in Afghanistan, he added.

The Congress, reacting to the revelation based on Dulat's comment that the government "goofed up" in its response, demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On the Congress' demand, Akbar said: "It was a national crisis and in the spirit of the (Atal Bihari) Vajpayee government, consultations were held with all the parties. Everybody was kept in the loop."

However, the Congress has termed Dulat's statements as "disturbing facts".

"They (the BJP) have compromised the interests of the country whenever they have been in power. Who was behind these decisions? The prime minister should break his silence and apologise to the country," Congress spokesperson Ajoy Kumar said.

But Akbar challenged the Congress party and asked: "Should those 400 plus Indians had been allowed to die?"

On Kandahar, "the Congress has a very convenient memory... it's regrettable... perhaps they have occasional lapses of amnesia when it suits them," he added.

Dulat's book, "Kashmir: The Vajpayee Years", is slated to be released shortly.

The BJP leader also demanded an apology from the Congress for raising questions about Modi's integrity, citing Gujarat riots.

"There is no question of the prime minister's apology regarding 2002 riots. He was exonerated in the matter," Akbar said.

Modi, for all his dynamism in making "Vibrant Gujarat" when he was CM, was not so vibrant in controlling the riots that happened during Godhra. That is the issue. And because he was not proactive in taking charge during the communal riots, anybody can assume there was a deadly agenda of vengeance by him and his cohorts, to treat the minorities a lesson, by clandestinely giving indirect support for the rioters...

The fact that he has been acquitted by the courts for the same, is a different matter, because in India, anything is possible, if one has power, influence, and money. It has been proved, time and time again, how the powerful escape justice in india and do not ever get punished.

    Oh Congress still alive?
Now wake up to raise the matter
It was ruling party in Delhi why they closed their eyes when innocents raped, burnt alive and what about Ehsan Jafri MP who also burnt alive at his residence who made hundreds of call to all political leaders?
Why now raking up this issue?
    For political motives?
    What a shame?

Does anyone remember who was in-charge of Delhi's security when the
1984 massacre of Sikhs took place in the capital of India?

How come Narendra Modi has been singled out as the Devil Incarnate as
if he personally carried out all the killings during the riots of
    2002?"

No speck of doubt about what Salim Khan has said.

BJP is the only party that can 'goof up' anything and does not need to ownup the responsibility.
    1) It let go dreaded terrorists of LeT, HuM who killed hundreds. 'Humanitarian Ground'.
    2) BJP took responsibility on Babri Masjid and let it demolished.
    'Humanitarian Ground'.
    3) It lets go Lalit Modi to enjoy his parties around the world. 'Humanitarian Ground'.
    4) Confiscated millions of tons of iron ore from Belekeri Port gets smuggled overnight under BJP. Humanitarian Ground.

You can only have humanitarian angle for every 'goof up' of BJP.

There is something wrong in the number of people on board the hijacked plane as 400 given by MJ Akber, it had 176 passengers & 15 crew only.
If Indira or Rajiv were PM then they would have taken proactive action to prevent the planes take off from Amritsar airport rather than surrendering to the hijackers whims which increased more attacks on India as they found out India was a soft state, just like they did that during V P Singh's rule when Rubaiyya Sayeed was swapped with terrorists & Kashmir erupted in more terror acts which have never stopped even now.
We need to learn the lessons from Israel, which never surrenders or bows down but confronts them come what may or be it at supreme sacrifices of their own.

The current FM Sushma Swaraj's husband was on board that IC-814 Indian Airlines plane. That is why no instructions were given to commandos to storm the flight in Amritsar and BJP surrendered itself to a handful of terrorists putting the entire nation in shame in the eyes of world community. Whenever you raise hijack issue BJP is sweating and feels nervous.

Bethe daala okkare ijji atte!Present Congress party, its present leaders are fake.Congress leader J.Nehru's power hungriness is responsible for the real freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose.Later Congress/Nehru succeeded in depicting that country's independence was due to its/their struggle.Real picture was quite different.Corruption guru late IG is mainly responsible for spreading the corruption virus through out the country. It all started Agrawal of SBI case who was later killed mistriously.terror too was IGs gift by creating Bhindranwale.Later Bhindranwale turned Bhasmasura and died inside Gurudwara in police action.IGs death was in return of Bhindranwale's death and RG's too.During anti Sikh riot in Delhi in 1984 more than 3000 innocent sikhs were butchered congress goons lead of Tytler.Sanjay Gandhis death by accident too was a mistry.Congress knows what is what. Ramajamna bhoomi issue too was congress gift.
After killing 100 rats Congress billy is now thinking of going to theertha yathra!
