Mangaluru, Dec 15: As part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Mangaluru’ campaign, a corner meet programme was organised at St Agnes College here in collaboration with the Make a Change Foundation and the Mangaluru City Police.
Addressing the gathering, Make a Change Foundation founder Suhail Kandhak said Mangaluru is a city with a rich history and has earned a reputation in the fields of education, healthcare, and several other sectors.

However, he expressed concern that in recent times, the city has been frequently associated with negative incidents. Calling upon students to actively participate in the ‘Nasha Mukt Mangaluru’ campaign, he urged them to work towards restoring Mangaluru’s image as a city known nationally for education and healthcare, as it once was.
Kadri police station sub-inspector Manohar, speaking on the occasion, said that the cooperation of students and educational institutions is crucial to building a drug-free Mangaluru. He stated that if information is shared about students who have fallen prey to drug abuse, the responsibility of helping them come out of the addiction rests with the police department. He added that free counselling facilities are also provided for this purpose. “Our intention is not to register cases against students, but to help them overcome drug addiction,” he clarified.
Beena, head of the Born-Again Foundation, shared her personal experiences with drug addiction, recalling her college days and the struggles she faced in overcoming the habit. She cautioned that drug abuse not only destroys an individual but also has a devastating impact on families and society as a whole.
Former corporator Naveen D'Souza, degree college principal Dr Sister M Venissa AC, Gurupasad, Lavanya Ballal, and others were present at the programme.
