Bahrain, May 26: An Indian family was in deep shock last night after a toddler died in a freak accident at their home in Gudaibiya.

Nihal, who celebrated his first birthday just two weeks ago, was standing near the front door when his uncle, reportedly returning with a heavy load of clothes from the laundry, kicked the door and knocked the boy down.

The unconscious boy was rushed to the American Mission Hospital where six doctors tried for 45 minutes to revive him before pronouncing him dead at 11am.

The boy's father, Dinesh Kumar, 36, works as assistant maintenance manager in the printing press for Dar Akhbar Al Khaleej and has lived in Bahrain for seven years with his wife Naina, 34.

Family friend Krishna Prasad said the couple and uncle Anil were devastated. The couple also have another son, Swapnil, aged six.

The toddler's body was last night at the Salmaniya Medical Complex mortuary.
