Bengaluru, Aug 14: The schools should be held responsible for the atrocities committed against children in schools which include rape and sexual harassment, one of the recommendations by the expert committee says.
The expert committee was formed to suggest measures to stop and contain atrocities taking place in schools against children. The committee has prepared its interim report which says that the school management should be held fully responsible for the inhuman acts taking place inside the school campuses. The committee tells that the police personnel should visit the schools often and record their visits in a beat book and backgrounds of the security guards employed in the schools should be checked and verified.
Member of legislative council V S Ugrappa who is the president of this committee said that more time is required to suggest the recommendations to stop rape and other sexual harassments against women and children. Hence the interim report on the suggestions has been prepared. The report will be handed over to the government soon.
“The laws enacted themselves will not help in containing the crime. A comprehensive policy on the pre cautionary measures to be taken also needs to be introduced. The present interim report mainly contains these measures,” Ugrappa revealed.
Only the right persons should be employed as security guards and their details should be given to police for verification, said Ugrappa.
He said that the he visited Pragathi College in Kadugodu, where he found some lapses on the part of the college management and he has recommend action against the college. Gauthami from Pragathi College was murdered.
