Mangalore, Jul 6: Vinay Gaonkar who was supposed to take charge of Bunder police station on Thursday July 5 evening, had to go back empty handed as Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) issued stay order following a petition by Bunder inspector Umesh Sheth.
Umesh Sheth had been transferred to Bangalore and Vinay Gaonkar was appointed in his place in the Bunder station. Accordingly the latter had come to station at 7 pm on Thursday. But by the time he took charge of the station, KAT asking to maintain status quo reached the station. The order had stated that if Vinay Gaonkar had taken charge by 4.10 pm on Thursday, the order will not be applicable. Since Vinay Gaonkar arrived only at 7 pm, he had to abide by the order.
Umesh had filed a petition with KAT questioning his transfer stating that it was only 5-6 months eversince he was appointed at the station and it was not right to transfer him that early. He had also stated that Vinay Gaonkar who was supposed to take charge facing charges and departmental enquiry.
Considering all these things and present situation, KAT issued stay order and asked to maintain status quo at Bunder station until the further order is announced.
