Udupi, Jul 9: Michael Rodrigues of St Antony’s Church at Sastan was elected president of Udupi district ICYM on Sunday July 8 at the Annual General Meeting of ICYM.
The election and installation of new office-bearers of the Udupi Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) district committee was held at Mount Rosary Parish Hall, Kallianpur on Sunday July 8.
Presiding over the function, Fr Baptist Menezes, the newly-appointed Episcopal Vicar of Udupi said that organizing the youth is an essential necessity for the progress of any community. ICYM Udupi was undoubtedly stronger than the Mangalore youth federation, he added.
Fr Ramban G M Scaria, ICYM Udupi director Fr Peter Pinto, Sr Adrian, lady animator of ICYM were also present on the occasion.
In the election held later Michael Rodrigues Sastan was elected new president and Sohan from Pangla was elected vice-president. Jane Maria Serrao of Sastan was elected as lady vice-president. While Shawn Pereira of Miyar was elected secretary, Wilson D’Sa from Kolalgiri was elected joint secretary. Melwyn Mascarenhas from Kolalgiri and Harun Nixon from Pamboor were elected Cup secretary and cup advisor respectively.
The second Cup award as ‘Very Excellent’ unit was won by Pangla unit and ‘Excellent’ unit award was bagged by Pamboor unit. Kolalgiri, Moodbelle and Belman units were awarded as the “Best” units.
Prizes were sponsored by Karawal Milan Group from Dubai and they were specially recognized on the occasion. Jane Maria Serrao and Salora Maria D’Souza of Satan compered the programme.
John Noronha inaugurated the Fourth Annual General body Meeting.
Kallianpur dean Fr Marcel Saldanha presided over the inaugural function. Moodubelle parish priest and former Episcopal Vicar Fr Valerian D’Souza, out-going district ICYM president, Maxim D’Sa, district secretary, Vikson Matthias were also present.
