Hard disk reveals Kafeel's terror links
NDTV Report
Bangalore, Jul 10: NDTV has exclusive information about the contents of the hard drive of Kafeel Ahmed's computer, which was recovered in Bangalore on Monday.
The information comes on a day when Karnataka's Home Minister M P Prakash confirmed that Kafeel Ahmed was indeed the Glasgow bomber and Mohammed Haneef, detained in Australia, has definite links to the UK terror plot.
''With regard to his physical presence at places where the attack took place, he is not there. But if his antecedents are checked up, he is one of the most misguided youth, who had the bent of mind to plan it.
''He is of a sober nature, intelligent and it will never be suspected that they could be harbouring such plans. But such people are more dangerous than the rowdies on the streets,'' said the minister.
Terrorist network
There is incriminating material like videos of terrorist executions, attacks filmed by terrorists and speeches by key Al Qaida leaders, none of which is available, either publicly or on the internet.
The intelligence agencies say this indicates that Kafeel was part of some kind of internal distribution list in a terrorist network.
British Intelligence sources have also told India that there is CCTV footage showing Kafeel involved in parking the explosive-rigged cars in The HayMarket London.
This means Kafeel is not just the main suspect in the Glasgow attack but also directly involved in the Hay Market failed bombing.
The cars in HayMarket were discovered by police before they exploded after fuel leaks were detected.
Bomb making components were recovered from Kafeel's house in London. The computers recovered from Hyderabad allegedly showed literature promoting Osama and jehad, according to the Hyderabad police.
After coming back from London in 2005 Kafeel organised a meeting on the plight of Muslims in Chechnya. Among other things he mentioned in that meeting was the religious nature of some Muslims in Birmingham. It is suspected that Kafeel was indoctrinated in UK during his stint in Belfast.
Dr Haneef Mohammed and Sabeel, the other suspects, knew about the plot but were not directly involved in the attack.
Source of information
The detention of Mohd Haneef meanwhile who is held by the Australian police has been extended by two days.
His lawyer Peter Russo has complained to ABC Radio that the police was not sharing information on the case. His primary source of information was the media. ''It's very unfair,'' he said.
Haneef's lawyer has also spoken about how his client is holding up well under the strain.
''He's fairly resilient. I mean obviously he didn't want to be here but apart from that, yeah no, he's holding up pretty well.''
Security checks
As for Indian doctors in the UK, there could be additional hurdles for getting work visas after the terrorist attacks.
The new Security Minister Admiral Sir Alan West is expected to discuss with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, his initial report on the terror attacks after taking a close look at security checks on National Health Service workers from abroad.
The Prime Minister had asked Admiral West to examine the procedures for recruiting NHS workers and potential failings that led to the failed car bomb attacks in London and Glasgow.
Its unclear whether Sir West's findings will be made public at this stage.
