'SAARC important forum to address regional challenges'

Islamabad, Oct 1 (IANS): The prime minister's advisor on foreign affairs, Sartaj Aziz said Pakistan considers South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) an important forum for evolving a collective response to the regional challenges, the media reported on Thursday.

He made these remarks in the informal session of the SAARC Council of Foreign Ministers in New York on Wednesday, Radio Pakistan reported.

He said Pakistan looks forward to welcoming all SAARC member states to its 19th Summit in Islamabad in 2016.

Pakistan is committed to the objectives enshrined in the Charter of SAARC and its Development Goals, Aziz said.

Pakistan has, over the years, taken substantial steps to advance the ideals and objectives of SAARC, he added.
