Karkal, Oct 23: Police have arrested Biju TK in relation to the illegal storage of ammonium nitrate at a private property at Durga Tellaru near here.
On Wednesday October 21, when the police team led by Dr Sumana D P raided the property and seized ammonium nitrate stored in about 250 bags of 50 kilograms worth Rs 4 lac, the owner of the seized goods Biju T K was not to be found. The arrest came a day later on Thursday, October 22.
The property belongs to Wilson of Kerala origin which was leased out to Biju T K some months back. Biju T K started building up the stock which came to the attention of AASP Dr Sumana D P who raided the place.
Biju T K had given his address as son of Kuruvilla and said that he resided at Thiruthikra farm during a previous case. Now without information he changed his residence to Manipal, which delayed his arrest.
It is said that Biju T K has been doing the hoarding of illegal explosives with the aid of some political patronage. It should also be remembered that the area is naxal prone and the storage of such big quantity of explosives can lead to unwanted situations. Surprisingly only the top officers have raided the place so far.
Previous cases
Labhu Ram, then AASP, had seized explosives at Ajekar and arrested a person named Biju in 2007.
Kerala police with the help of Karkal police had arrested Biju and taken him to Kerala In 2010.
Then AASP and present SP, Annamalai had raided a place at Nakre Varnabettu and seized 4 loads of ammonium nitrate in March 2014. He had also arrested Biju T K then. But after some time Biju T K managed to get bail with the help of a political leader and continued the same business.
