Mangalore, Aug 16: While almost the entire city is getting ready to retire to bed, a few hundred people are keeping a vigil on Thursday August 16 night to accomplish a mission. Reports reaching to Daijiworld office just now informed that people have gathered in big numbers in front of an under-construction building near Shree Devi College at Ballalbagh here after rumours spread that there have been problems from ghosts in the building for two days.
It all started when some people working in the nearby building heard a baby cry at midnight on Tuesday August 14. Since there have been many cases of newly-born babies being abandoned, a few of the workers went into the building, put on the lights and started looking for the baby. But for their surprise they did not find anyone. Thinking it was just some sound, they returned. But as they came out of the building they heard dog barking from inside.
They were yet to come out of the sudden shock that they heard a woman wailing and pleading for help. Since they were only a few, they left the place in fear.
This news soon spread in the area on Wednesday August 15 and by evening some youth were ready to wait for midnight. On Wednesday night too there were similar sounds. A few girls residing in the girls' hostel which is near to the said building too heard the sounds. Sources said that they were so horrified that a few of them are suffering from fever for the last couple of days.
Some sources also said that a person had recored these sounds on his mobile phone. But immediately his mobile phone got stuck and he could not operate it, till he deleted those sounds.
Accordingly, now on Thursday night a lot of people have gathered in front of the building and are waiting for midnight. Daijiworld photojournalist Dayanand Kukkaje who was on the spot said that people are still thronging in. So far situation is under control and police too have arrived on the spot.
On the other hand there are also stories that someone is playing pranks to frighten the residents of the nearby hostel. However the ghost story has now been spread all over the city and people are waiting anxiously for the midnight hours.
