Mangalore: Cross-country Race Flagged off by Konkani Academy

Mangalore, Aug 19: The Konkani Sahitya Academy is observing the ‘Konkani Manyata Divas’ (day of recognition to Konkani) in a unique way in the city, on Sunday, August 19.

A cross-country race has been organized to commemorate the said day by the Academy, in association with Konkani Yuva Awaz, Konkani RakAann Sanchalan and Mandd Sobhann.

Dayanand Kharvi, who created a record by swimming non-stop between Gangolli and Bengre, a distance of 150 kms, within 24 hours, flagged off the cross country race at Padua high school grounds.

About 75 persons are participating in the race. The race will be passing through Nantoor-Mallikatte-Bunts Hostel-St Aloysius College-Shedigudda-Bishops’ House and Hotel Shrinivas and will finally conclude at Ganapathi high school.

Eric Ozario, president of the Academy, Roy Castelino and Dr Edward Nazareth of Konkani Rakann Sanchalan, Roshan Castelino and Denis D’Silva of Konkani Yuva Awaz, Academy members Gabriel Vas and Victor Mathias were present on the occasion.

    Good report with wonderful photographs. Nice to see children and adults took part in marathon race. Good spirit from Jeevan Vas who took part in this race too! Keep up the good work.
