Mangalore, Aug 19: District minister in-charge B Nagaraj Shetty has assured that Water taxes will not be hiked. He was speaking at the inauguration of Adishwars Electro world in Bejai in the city.
He said that it has been decided not to hike the taxes before the next corporation elections. There was no question of revision of rates as of now and he said that he would speak to the administrator in this regard.
The revised Water tariff issued by the City Corporation will come in to force on September 1 2007. According to the release the rate for the domestic users will be Rs 100, for non-domestic users will be Rs 300, for commercial purpose tariff is fixed at Rs 600 and for the construction works Rs 1,000.
For domestic purpose one time charges is Rs 2,000 while for non domestic purpose it will be Rs 4,000 and for commercial purpose it will Rs 8,000. Any domestic users who use more than 15,000 litres will be charged Rs 3 above 15,000 to 30,000, above 30,000 to 50,000 Rs 4,50 will be charged for every 1,000 litres and from 50,000 to 75,000 Rs 8 will be charge for every 1,000 litres.
Similarly non-domestic users who use up to 10,000 litres and above will be charged Rs 15 for every 1,000 litres, Rs 20 for above 10,000 litres. For commercial users every 1,000 litres will cost Rs 20 for usage up to 30,000 litres and Rs 30 per litres of usage above 30,000 litres.
ADB loans will be have to repaid with the handing over of the project, corporation will have to bear an additional cost of Rs 14 crores annually. The water supply and maintenance cost has been estimated to Rs 3,375 lac and the present income form water supply is Rs 1,284, and to cover the deficit of Rs 2,091 lac this revision has been done.
Shetty further informed that the draft of endowment act was in its final stage and be completed in about 15 days. This draft would be a model for the entire country. It would be placed before the sub committee. It would be discussed in the cabinet meeting and only then it would get a final shape, he said.
