Minister says government will celebrate Tipu Jayanti every year

Bengaluru, Dec 3: State Wakf minister, Qamarul Islam, said that the government will celebrate Tipu Sultan's birth anniversary every year.

The minister was speaking after meeting a few persons, said to be descendants of Tipu Sultan, who had met him on Wednesday December 2 to express gratitude for celebrating Tipu Jayanti this year. The minister, who felicitated the visitors, wondered why cannot the government, which celebrates birth anniversaries of Kanaka Dasa, Basaveshwara etc, celebrate Tipu Jayanti.

"Unsavoury incidents occurred because of intolerance spread by BJP leaders. Specifically, opposition leader in the assembly Jagadish Shettar, and former speaker, K G Bopaiah, are directly responsible for the breach of peace at Madikeri during Tipu Jayanti ceebrations," he commented. He added that he does not regret the incidents which occurred at Tipu Jayanti at Madikeri.

Shehzada Ismail Shah Sultan, Shehzad Rehamat Unnisa and Syed Mansood were honoured by the minister.

    Best way to improve work culture in our country is to keep Govt holiday to the minimum just 3 August 15th January 26 and October 2nd.Keep five days a week working day of 8 hours and individual who want to celebrate festival of their religion or choice they may be allowed yearly 5 days Restricted Holidays RH.

Hang his portrait and worship him, but don't force our children to participate in any celebration of a person who committed genocide. If you guys want vote, go on the street, kneel down and beg for it, but do not stoop down to the extent of celebrating the birthday of Hitler like personality just to please a few. We will see that congress will take a long vacation to worship Tippu in the next general election.

    If the government is really interested in celebrating jayanthis, why do they ignore benevolent emperors like Ashoka, Akbar, Harshavarhana, Krishnadevaraya, etc. Why do they unnecessarily rake up conflict by celebrating a controversial, disputed figure in history?

    Unlike other historical accounts by different historians, no two secular historians have given identical accounts of Tipu, except that he was a brave warrior. He adopted different tactics to deal with different communities and regions. One of his objectives was to cleanse his kingdom of Kafirs or infidels, using all possible tactics, depending upon the nature and population of those communities. On one side of his kingdom he gave grants to a few temples, on the other side he destroyed many temples. He permitted the French to build a church in Mysore apparently in exchange for their support against the British. On the other hand he mercilessly persecuted and killed the Christians of Mangalore. While he demolished all churches in Mangalore, he spared one at Farangipet. Except for his bravery he had been highly controversial in his dealings with the common people.

    Just because Tippu sulthan was unfair to mangalorean Catholics we cannot call tippu sulthan as atraitor. Infact he was a freedom fighter who fought for uprooting British rule in India. Of Course persecution of chritians wrong but during Tippu sulthans period monarchy was the way of governance not democracy so it quite natural that Tippu sulthan felt that Mangaloreans catholic supported Britishers so his logic was enemy is friend is enemy. But i have high esteem with my christian friend for their yeomen service for humanity especially in education helath care and upliftment of displaced poor people

    Words and phrases like “freedom, independence, self government, one nation, etc.” were unknown during Tipu’s time. Struggle for freedom started about 60 years after Tipu’s death and was intensified with the establishment of INC in 1885. All kings and princely rulers during Tipu’s time either fought among themselves or against the British and French or aligned with them for their own survival. The concept of self government and independence arose in the 19th century.

They want to show their concern on minority with which they are surviving. Please understand. At this juncture, let's not call out any more Jayanthis. Not hindu's , nor Christians. Let's be happy with the existing Jayanthi's and holidays. We respect your community boss. no harm and issues in common men and public. If they ( political leaders ) let us live with out creating such issues, we will be happily living, I am telling you. This is just to keep the fire on this Congress govt brining all these new new issues. If you want, claim for a Jayanthi on Abdul Kalam who was a national leaders and every Indian Citizen respects him. there would have been no fights or objections for that. Calling out Tippu's ( who is respected by partial india , but hated by half the India ) they created a mess and still they don't want to calm it down. Somany lives gone, unnecessarily. So, please think and join us to retain peace in society. Let them not create any communal issues like this. Then we can easily see who creates on the other hand. If some one still creates, easy to catch and eliminate right. So, as public , let's join together and ask for NO such issues to be created by Govt.

    Yes. The work of the govt. is to create violence in the state so that all blame should be put on opposition party and they can boil their food. Why the leaders have to give open statement about tippu jayanthi celebration, again to create violence. We should think about the development of the country, correct implement of Central & state government programs instead of blaming each other and fight like dogs. The media people should stop these type of news/debates in their channel. Because if normal people listen only the good news they may forget all the bad things which happened before. So please live peacefully, give respect and take respect instead of blaming e each other.

    ‘Better late than never’ At last Congress did a good job by celebrating a patriarch and the first brave king who initiated the fight against British to quit India. If BJP is planning to celebrate Ghandiji killer Nathuram, many may happy but here I saw only some vested interest negative comments, this shows how they love their ancestor British. In such case we must not look caste, creed and religion to celebrate a great personality who even sacrificed his children for the sake of India.     Tippu was a real patriotic king where as other princes were nothing but tax collectors for the British. I could say he was one of the few kings who really fought the British and sacrificed his life because of a crooked spy.He has done a lot of good and tried to push the British out.He may have punished some of the catholics who were not patriotic.Kings did punish who ever is against them. Patriotism has nothing to do with color of the skin,sexual orientation or the belief system.The people's beliefs depend on their education and conditioning in childhood. Like smoking,sickness and ignorance belong mostly to low education levels.Ignorance is the main cause of turmoil these days.Which ever religion we belong we have the same Soul or Spirit inside.That is the basis of Hindu philosophy on which all religions are based. So lets respect a true patriot.History cannot be changed because somebody does not like history.When we change history , we dig your own grave.

    Tipu was not the original ruler of Mysore. His father, Hyder Ali usurped the throne of Mysore and held the then Maharaja captive, until the British restored the kingdom to the original ruler of the Wodeyar dynasty. Tipu fought against the British with the help of the French for his own survival.
