The talk was delivered by Dr Surendra Rao, dean of Mangalore University. Speaking on the topic he said that India had seen freedom struggle even before the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, but that was not as widespread as that of 1857.
The struggle between 1857 to 1947 was not completely carried with main intention of nationality nor non-violence, he said. There have been absolute paradoxes between the write-ups by Savarkar, written before he was imprisoned and after he was released from the jail, he added.
The rebellions realized it was not enough to make India independent of the colonial rule but even the economical, social freedom and equality should be gained besides freedom, the dean added.
