Mangalore, Aug 25: Link De-Addiction and Rehabilitation Centre completed 16 years. The occasion was celebrated under the banner ‘Festival of Sobriety’ at Link Centre, Bolar here on Saturday, August 25.

M Maheshwar Rao, deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada was the chief guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Rao informed that institutions like ‘Link’ should continue to exist because the malaise of addiction to drugs and other intoxicating intakes is still rampant.
 
A survey on tobacco addiction among auto-rickshaw, bus and truck drivers in the city report was also released.
 
The counselors who instruct the addicts and the addicts who come to the de-addiction and rehabilitation centers should have a positive attitude, Rao advised and hoped that ‘Link’ will continue to serve society with the same intention and enthusiasm.

The programme began with the flag hoisting. Judith Mascarenhas, treasurer of ‘Link’ called upon the gathering to renew their determination of staying away from bad habits and strengthen their determination to stay away from such bad habits forever.

The beneficiaries of the camp were felicitated by Rao. They shared their opinions and emphasized the significance of de-addiction camp for alcoholics, and other addicts.  
 
Vimala Lobo, Olinda Pereira vice president, Thomas director, Fr Jose V parish priest of Blessed Alphonso Church, Kankanady were the guests of honour.
