Udupi: Minister Sorake dismisses reports of SP Annamalai's transfer as 'rumour'

Udupi, Dec 30: "The news making the rounds about the transfer of district superintendent of police, Annamalai, who has proved himself to be an efficient officer, to Bengaluru is just a rumour," said district in-charge minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake.

He was reacting to recent media reports about the likely transfer of Annamalai as the deputy superintendent of police at Bengaluru.

There has been a collective opinion against the transfer of Annamalai, who has been credited with bringing the law and order situation in the district back to tracks. There have been open discussions about reported pressure being exerted by a Swamiji based in Dakshina Kannada district on behalf of the disciple of a Swamiji from here, for the transfer of district superintendent of police.

In the meantime, social worker, Dr Deviprasad Shetty, came out with the statement that he has urged the minister against transferring Annamalai out of the district.

    Whether it is SP Annamalai or SP Shabarimalai, the Government has the right to transfer to ensure that other problematic districts are saved from anti social elements by such efficient officers. Even Mr Annamalai's efficiency should be recognised by promotions which cannot be stalled because of people's pressure. People should be vigilant against corrupt and dishonest officers and ensure the Government takes stringent action against such officers and not harp on one efficient officer to be retained for life in a district.

    Over a period of time Mr. Annamalai has given an excellent account of himself as a forthright and honest officer. He relocation would have meant a great loss to The Udipi District and to the people of Udipi.

    I am glad that these are only rumors and that Annamaali will continue to be in Udipi. This is a great relief.

    I join several others in wishing Annamali the best of everything. May his relocation be only when he has to go as Commissioner or as an IGP
