Udupi: Syndicate Bank's Former Chairman P S V Mallya (76) No More

Udupi, Oct 11: Former chairman and managing director of Syndicate Bank Perdur Subraya Vaman Mallya (76), most familiar to all with his initials PSV, passed away at home in Manipal on Tuesday.
It was only less than a month ago that he had lost his wife. He is survived by son Shrikant and daughters Geeta Kamath and Lata Nagarkar.
Born in 1932 as the second son of Perdur Vaman Sheshagiri Mallya, he graduated in Commerce and Law and joined Syndicate Bank - then The Canara Industrial and Banking Syndicate Ltd - in 1958 as officer. By way of sheer hard work and dedication, he rose to be chairman and MD of the bank in 1986 to serve for further five years.
During in tenure in the Karkala branch of the bank, it was ranked the best branch for five years running. Around the same time, he was instrumental in the founding of Shri Bhuvanendra College in Karnataka with the late Dr T M A Pai in the lead. He also had the credit of founding the Rotary Club in Karkala.
Later on he had served in Ahmedabad, Baroda (now Vadodara), Delhi etc. and played a key role in expanding the bank's branch network in the northern parts of the country.
Over the past five years, he was serving as president of the Shirali Shri Mahaganapati Mahammai temple's administration committee and was responsible for a large number of development works there.
